Fall is almost among us. While most are excited about PSL, and we are too. If you have curly hair, this is the season you can rock a blowout without your hair reverting. Won’t he do it! I’ve compiled my list of top 3 hair salons in D.C. to get a blow out minus the heat damage.
1. Quarita Futrell @ Taylor & York Salon (Howard-Shaw – DC)

Quarita AKA “Q” is the D.C. Curl Whisperer. After stalking her Instagram, I decided to make an appointment online. When I arrived at the salon, she dressed to strut down the runway of a New York Fashion Week designer. Her sense of fashion was on point, but her depth of knowledge about hair blew me away (pun intended)! She uses high quality products like Amika, Milbon USA, and the uber fancy Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. When I looked at my hair, I didn’t recognize it. It looking AH-MAZING. It lasted for 2 weeks, even with light workouts and wrapping my hair in my Green Satin-Lined Turban (LozaTam.com; $40) at night. Q is a gem, and it won’t be long before a big celebrity whisks her off on a worldwide tour, or she’ll be booked 2 years in advance. Book her while she’s still taking appointments.
2. Yene Damtew @ Aesthetics Salon (Arlington, VA)

Just a short 15 minute ride outside of D.C, Yene Damtew got her start as the assistant to Johnny Wright – stylist to the former first lady – Michelle Obama. The Cali native is now one of the personal hairstylist to the Obama family. Her celebrity client list is extensive, but includes actress Tracee Ellis Ross, Aja Naomi King, Skai Jackson, and Zendaya. She opened her Arlington boutique salon (Aesthetics Salon) in 2017, and the salon opening was attended by the former first lady herself. Yene stays booked and busy. However, if you do manage to get an appointment, consider yourself blessed and highly favored by the curly hair gods.
3. Sella @ Salon Cielo (Pentagon City – Arlington, VA)

When I used to live in Arlington, I would go to Sella at Salon Cielo. Recently, my best friend who has type 3 curls went to see Sella for a blow out and a trim, so I decided to tag along. Sella was super sweet and had her in and out in about an hour. My bestie’s hair looked gorgeous and bouncy. Bonus: The Salon is tucked right next to the Nordstrom’s Cafe, so you can quickly grab a Chai Latte before your service.
